AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
- Obtain a scientific evaluation and objective assessment of a special school student’s intellectual capability, learning potential, application of mind, logical reasoning and social behavior
- Devise and suggest an individual roadmap of higher studies for the special school students depending upon the assessment
- Explore, advise and suggest a path for higher study that matches with the individual student’s intellectual capability
- Identifiy and conceive a plan of action for employment search for the student who has no further potential and available options for higher study

Present Status of Differently Abled
As per Census 2011 there are 2.68 crore persons with disabilities who constitute 2.21% of the total population of the India. In Tamil Nadu State 11.79 lakh disabled persons have been identified. As per the statistics provided by the Demand No. 52, Policy Note 2016-2017, Department or the Welfare of Differently Abled, Government of Tamilnadu, 415 special schools have been granted recognition by the Government of Tamilnadu.

So far the Government of Tamilnadu has identified, recognized and facilitated differently abled students by supporting them with welfare schemes for provision of the following services.

- Scholarships & Assistance
- Educational Equipment

- Marginal Self Employment Opportunities

- Physical Aids & Appliances
Resource & Knowledge gap Identification by Project Implementor – Problems faced by Differently Abled with respect to higher studies and subsequent employment
Based on documentary evidence and available research inputs a huge resource and knowledge gap has been identified by the project implementor for adoption and implementation. The resource gap overview in brief has been given below.
- Scientific Assessment of Special School Students with respect to their skills, talents, higher educational potential, intellectual capability and social behaviour
- Identification of the higher educational needs of different category of differently abled special students.
- Database of a pool of educated special school students with potential for higher learning.
- Counselling the assessed Special School Students and helding them identify suitable career employment choices
- Creating awareness of the availability of skilled and vocationally trained special school students among corporates and employers

ABOUT THE PRESENT PROJECT
As part of the project, the following services shall be provided
- Proving IQ Assessment & Career Counselling Services to Hearing, Speech, Visually & Physically Impaired Special School Students of entire Tamilnadu state
Plan of Action for Project Implementation
- Initial Meeting & Discussion with concerned officials at Chennai and other places.
- Joint Preparation of Step by Step Plan of Action for Project Implementation.
- Estimation of number of Special School Students all over Tamilnadu.
- Printing of Braille Charts in various vernacular languages.
- Identification, Meeting & Briefing of Resource persons at School level for distribution of Braille Charts.
- Monitoring the despatch and distribution of Braille Charts
- Organising Awareness Programs with local dignitaries during Braille Chart distribution.
- Knowledge empowerment and utilisation of Braille Chart contents by visually impaired school children.
- Feedback from resource persons in the concerned schools regarding Braille Chart utilisation and followup to assess the benefits and effectiveness of this program.
