MedIndia Charitable Trust has been established with the objective of providing healthcare services to the poor, needy, down trodden and the persons particularly school students with disabilities by conducting free medical camps, public health awareness programs, public health exhibitions and providing free and concessional treatment to the poor and needy. This Trust is a Charitable Organisation of MedIndia Hospitals, Nungambakkam, Chennai

The Founder Trustee, Padma Shri awardee Dr. T.S.Chandrasekar, guided by his altruistic trait has adopted many humanitarian activities and dedicated himself for the welfare of persons with disabilities, beyond the call of duty, while passionately contributing to the scientific advancement to place India on the World Map of Gastroenterology, by establishing a hospital, founding a charitable trust, initiating a research foundation, organizing an academy and forming a rural voluntary health service, without pursuing power and pelf.

The Trust has developed an innovative, first of its kind project, IQ Assessment & Career Counselling project, which has been appreciated and approved by the Planning Commission, Govt. of Tamil Nadu for extending this project throughout Tamil Nadu.

The MedIndia Charitable Trust has conceptualized and executed the distribution of multilingual Braille Cards for the blind on ‘Tips on Health and Hygiene and Clean Health Habits’, a first of its kind in India, and health card on Hygiene to hearing impaired school children of Tamil Nadu. The BRAILLE CHART project has been appreciated and adopted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India and has been extended throughout India. This act symbolizes that this trust has applied medical knowledge for social causes, particularly for persons with disabilities.

Highlights of 21 Unique Projects implemented by MedIndia Charitable Trust

  • IQ Assessment & Career Counselling Services to Hearing & Visually Impaired + 2 Students.
  • Distribution of Hygiene & Health Tips through Braille Charts to Visually impaired & Health Cards to Hearing Impaired and physically challenged school students of entire Tamil Nadu
  • Blood Test for Nutritional Assessment (Anaemia, Calcium, Protein and Lipid deficiencies) for persons with disabilities of entire Tamil Nadu and appropriate supplementation to the deficient.
  • Followup Medical Camps for assessing the efficacy of our programs earlier implemented.
  • Free Blood Test to detect Hepatitis “B” Virus followed by appropriate management protocol.
  • Free General Medical Camp for Persons with disabilities.
  • Health Awareness Exhibition & Rallies promoting knowledge base for a healthy living
  • Distribution of Booklets on preventive aspects of digestive disorders to persons with disabilities and public.

Distinguished Contributions of Medindia Charitable Trust

  • Established MedIndia Charitable Trust and conducted 28 public health exhibitions and 92 Free Medical Camps for visually challenged and hearing impaired, physically challenged school students and mentally retarded children.
  • Provided free medical services to 27,845 persons with disabilities with 10,989 beneficiaries under followup.
  • Founded “Project Yellow” to educate and eradicate unscientific practices related to Jaundice, and “MedIndia Rural Voluntary Health Services” for the underprivileged masses
  • Launched 24 X 7 Toll Free Digestive diseases Helpline No.12789 for public, first of its kind in India.

Not contented with the academic and professional achievements that fetched the trustee several noteworthy accolades of national and international standing, his natural altrusitic attitude led him to implement 21 unique projects, many being the first of their kind in India, for the welfare of persons with disabilities, particularly the school children.
